Getting paid to be Kimya Dawson – “it’s not much, but it’s enough,” the Moldy Peach sings on her new solo album. The job entails traveling around the country singing (mostly) silly songs and serving as a beacon of hope for the hundreds of fans who have latched on to her off-kilter antifolk style. It’s hope that girls with just okay voices can sell records, hope that families can stick together, even hope that the world can be a better place.

Remember That I Love You picks up where 2004’s Hidden Vagenda left off, with songs about Kimya hating the president, fretting over her sickly mom, and hanging out with a collection of cool and wise friends. Tracks like “Caving In” find her keenly aware of her small-time role model status: “I’m trying to be brave / cause when I’m brave other people feel brave.”

There’s no extensive tour planned in support of Remember That I Love You: Kimya has a baby due this summer and is taking it easy until then. Send her booties and well wishes in care of K Records.
