Who Says Girls Can’t Play With Trucks?
Posted by Andrea BenvenutoObviously not The Trucks themselves, a band that seems to enjoy breaking all kinds of stupid rules. The members of this Bellingham/Seattle synth-pop ensemble establish their collective image as four very un-“ladylike” ladies with the “Introduction” to their debut album, proclaiming “I turn into a bitch when I’m hungry / I wear my panties a few days too long.” Subsequent tracks like “Titties” and “Why The?” confirm the raunchiness you might expect from a group whose MySpace profile lists Peaches in both the Influences and Sounds Like sections. Still, “Messages” is a totally sweet answering machine ode, and “Old Bikes” is xylophontastic fun, just like the rest of the album. (With the exception of the unbearable “Man Voice” – sorry, I don’t like or love that one.)
Catch the Trucks live at their album release party Sunday at The Crocodile. Word on the street says they wear some pretty snazzy outfits.
