Evangelical Pastor in the News

In yesterday’s Seattle P-I, there’s a piece about recent protests at the Mars Hill Church in Ballard, concerning offensive comments made by founder and pastor Mark Driscoll:

“A wife who lets herself go and is not sexually available to her husband is not responsible for her husband’s sin, but she may not be helping him, either,” in reference to evangelical leader Ted Haggard and his affair with a gay prostitute.

Driscoll’s column in the Seattle Times was subsequently canceled, and he did issue a formal apology in time to actually prevent the scheduled protests from happening. The protesters, People Against Fundamentalism, thanked Driscoll for his apology and according to the P-I, consider this mission accomplished.

The Mars Hill Church is only one of many evangelical outcroppings in this country. However, people tend to be in disbelief that such an establishment sits right in the middle of liberal Seattle. Anyone who has driven past the church on a Sunday, however, is well aware of just how many folks turn out for services.
