Dating for Dummies
Posted by Andrea BenvenutoForget identity theft. You know what’s really scary? Anyone born before 1970 looking for love on the Internet. Sean Thomas, author of Millions of Women Are Waiting to Meet You, is clearly not a member of the web-savviest generation. The book (to be published by Da Capo Press in April) is the ultimate result of a story assigned to 37-year-old Thomas for Men’s Health: He’s paid to try online dating for a year and chronicle the experience in print. At first, Thomas has no clue. (“Now that I’m a member, I have to start building what the websites all seem to call a profile,” he writes. No shit, Sherlock.) Still, our loverboy is an otherwise intelligent guy, and the results of his experiment are mostly funny. The backstory of his past exploits with several leggy young lasses add context to the story despite an undercurrent of bragging. Can a 30-something man find a mate on the Web? Sure, if he’s lucky. Is it worth reading a whole book to find that out? In this case … kind of.
