Zinester Heaven
Posted by Andrea BenvenutoFor anyone who keeps a running list of possible rainy day activities, here’s one more: a visit to the Zine Archive and Publishing Project at Richard Hugo House. I went there to do some research for RIVET’s Power issue and hope to get back for an afternoon of browsing as soon as I can. Located in the Hugo House basement, ZAPP holds more than 17,000 zines representing almost every subject imaginable. You can’t check anything out—can you imagine how many little zines would be lost that way?—but you can make copies to take home or just hang out on one of the couches and read. There’s even workspace to make your own zine and lots of other great resources. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 1 to 5 and most evenings until 9. ZAPP is staffed by volunteers, though, so your best bet is to call ahead and make sure it’s really open.
