I am driving on a simultaneously cloudy and sunny day. Dark
dirigibles of condensation are hiding me in almost night. in the distance
something is beautifully lit enough to break my heart. It could be a tree
or a house, or a pile of dirt but it becomes epic against the shadows. When
the clouds clear for me I am, briefly, golden.
These silhouettes by Eroyn Franklin are images from a graphic novel that is not yet finished.
1. Who is your biggest artistic inspiration?
My sister
2. What came first, the chicken or the egg?
The egg
3. Favorite Seattle bookstore?
I am a lover of libraries but also Fantagraphics, Bailey Coy, Zanadu, Elliot Bay and anything second hand.
4. Where is the best place to view art in Seattle?
Anywhere and everywhere. The Northwest film forum, Bulldog news, the sidewalk, the Frye, passing bodies, bike shops, billboards, Soil, and dirt. It just depends on what you want to look at.
5. If you could hang with any famous artist, who would it be and why?
Gordon Matta Clark. His work is smart, funny, challenging, committed and serious in a not-so-serious sorta way. It makes me feel like he would have been a really great person to have a few drinks with—and then saw a building in half.
6. Who are you more like: Calvin or Hobbes?
Hobbes.
